Indonesia, as the first country in the Asia-Pacific region, seeks to receive financial resources from the Green Climate Fund (GCF) for having successfully reduced greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from deforestation and forest degradation in the past.

The payment from the GCF is based on results achieved by Indonesia between 2014-2016, and which have been reported and validated by experts from the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). This is the essence of REDD+: a mechanism to reward countries for having reduced their deforestation.

The COVID-19 pandemic has posed an unprecedented challenge on the social, economic and political spheres of the country. While the lives of many communities have been impacted severely, UNDP Indonesia is committed to cushion the impact. Through partnerships with the government, UN agencies, NGOs ,CSOs and the private sector, UNDP’s approach touches on areas of critical need such as health care and socio- economic development. Drawing on its vast experience working with global crises, and employing innovative practices, UNDP Indonesia has been assisting the government to tackle the pandemic.
